One of the reasons I created this blog is because while doing all my research for childbirth, raising multiples, etc. I found a TON of support groups for moms — not so much for Dads.  Chris Rock has a great bit about this, roughly paraphrased:

Good Dads don’t get a lot of recognition.  The MVP Quarterback doesn’t say “thanks Dad” after the big game or hitting the game winning homerun.  Fathers Day presents are always worse than Mothers Day presents.  Did you tell Daddy he looks strong today?  Daddys don’t get thanked for paying the electric bill or “hooking up with that rent”.  Everythings for the Mommy.  What does Daddy get?  … Daddy gets the big piece of chicken.

I try to record as much information and notes as I can here, so that others can benefit from what I have learned while browsing the entire Internet, most Moms support sites, and Random_Baby_Related_Technology_Manufacturer().com.  The latest tidbit I found out is about baby monitors, and I learned it yesterday …

Everyone likely knows you want an audio monitor to be able to listen to your babies in the next room.  A SIDS movement monitor is also a nice way to put your mind at ease as it will alert you if the newborn doesn’t have at least a minute movement every 20 seconds.  The makers of the Angelcare SIDS movement and Audio monitor make a standard movement monitor mat and a single receiver, a Deluxe version which packages an extra receiver, and a Deluxe Plus model that packages an extra movement mat.  This is great news for parents of multiples, as I thought i’d have to purchase two of the complete sets for 139$ each to monitor our twins, but now I just have to get the 159$ deluxe plus model.  The only bad part is that currently it is only available through Amazon.com and the manufacturers direct website.  We are already registered at Target and BabiesRUs, so I don’t want to add yet another registry (Amazon).  So this one is just gonna be an in-house purchase for us.  I’m adding the monitor website to the resources links tab if you are interested.

*UPDATE 6/2/10*  Welp, here’s a hiccup for the readers.  I was very excited about the dual monitor pad setup but something kept nagging at me.  Nowhere in the description on Amazon or the manufacturer’s website did it say “perfect for twins!” or similar.  I decided to contact customer service and, sadly, I was told that this was a product more for a large crib that needed two monitors and would not work to monitor two separate cribs for movement failure.  Indeed, we will need two of the SIDS monitoring systems.  At least I found out before the purchase.
